23rd Win for Hazards of Love
RSS Feeds Monday, April 6, 2015

The first Saturday in April brought typical weather for early spring—rain—and a lot it.  Due to the condition of the turf course, the first race on April 4th, 2015 was moved to the main track, and Hazards of Love seized an opportunity to show his consistence and ability on the dirt.

Hazards of Love is an 8 year old gelding, but he looks and acts much more like a 3 year old.  In the paddock before the start of the race, Hazards reared up on his back legs to show his excitement and readiness to run. Sometimes such behavior in the paddock is worrisome for owners and trainers because it can mean the horse is anxious and not mentally ready for the task at hand.  This was not the case for Hazards of Love.

After a strong start, the Hinkle Farms bred gelding stalked the pace, and eventually moved up to challenge the leaders in the second turn.  Going down the final stretch, Hazards of Love dug in and surpassed Puppy Manners to win by ½ length.

Hazards of Love has made 66 lifetime starts and has been the victor 23 times.  He has hit the board 50 times and earned $441,668.  While it seems like he could race forever, his owner, Maggi Moss, plans to retire him this year.  Everyone at Hinkle Farms is so crazy about the gelding that we have offered him a forever home in his retirement. We are excited to see him continue racing this year, which is something he clearly loves to do, but we are even more excited to bring him home!
