History of Hinkle Farms

The Hinkle family began raising Thoroughbreds over fifty years ago.  Today, in an increasingly commercialized industry, Hinkle Farms remains a boutique, family-owned, broodmare operation dedicated to producing superior racehorses.

Hinkle Farms is situated on over 1000 acres in Paris, Kentucky.  This rich land is ideal for raising high-quality Thoroughbreds, and we have consistently aimed to raise and sell horses of the highest caliber.

Over ten percent of our graduates are stakes winners.  In recent years we have produced winners of the Ashland Stakes (G1), Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (G1), Florida Derby (G1), Queen Elizabeth Challenge Cup (G1), Man O’ War S. (G1), Lake Placid S. (G2), American Turf S. (G2), Inglewood H. (G2), Allaire DuPont Distaff H. (G2), Mrs. Revere S. (G2), Saratoga Special S. (G2), Regret Stakes (G3),  Affirmed S. (G3), Dixiana Bourbon S. (G3), and Sands Point (G3).

Notable runners who have been bred by or foaled and raised at Hinkle Farms include Divisidero, Weep No More, Ageless, Caroline Thomas, Bit of Whimsy, Buy The Barrel, Draft Pick, Current, Miss Josh, High Fly and Tactical Advantage.

Our Breeding Philosophy

We believe our key to success is simple: to treat our horses like horses.  Horses must be raised outside in spacious pastures where they can run, play, and develop strong and sound bone.  The lush grass and nutrient-rich water gives them a solid constitution that can’t be replicated artificially.  We also understand that each horse requires specific and specialized care, and we have built trusted relationships with some of the finest veterinarians in the industry.  Striking a balance between being hands-on and hands-off with these remarkable athletes has afforded us many years of success.
