It was a first stakes winner for Burning Arch on Sunday when her Hinkle Farms-bred son Arrowthegreat (5g o/o Burning Arch) won the Longacres Mile.

The Hinkle Farms-bred settled seven lengths off the leader in the one-mile dirt race before creeping a little closer in the middle stages of the race. Going off as the race favorite, he snuck through the pack entering the stretch and the race was on.

There was still plenty of work to do from that point, but Arrowthegreat dug in to confront the leader in the final furlong. That quickly turned into him grabbing the lead and pulling away to win by 2 ¼ lengths at the line.

Trained by Dan Blacker for Radley Equine, Arrowthegreat has finished in the top three in 11 of 18 starts for $276,690 in earnings.

Boomer Bloodstock bought the Hinkle Farms offering at Keeneland September for $60,000 in 2021 and that has paid off in spades for the racing owner.

A two-time winning racehorse herself, Burning Arch is the dam of four winners from four to race in her broodmare career. She is a half-sister to stakes winner Cat’s Claw and is a three-quarter sister in blood to the great Pine Island. Burning Arch’s granddam is Matlacha Pass, who also produced five-time Grade 1 winner Point of Entry and stakes winner Bokeelia Island.

Daughters and granddaughter of Matlacha Pass went on to produce Grade 3 winner and Grade 1 placed Great Island and Grade 3 winner and Grade 2-placed Surprisingly among others.

Burning Arch has a 2-year-old colt by Twirling Candy named Tauke and a weanling filly by Proxy to come.
