Hinkle Farms-bred Grade 3 winner Current (4YO out of Crosswinds) earned more graded stakes blacktype on Saturday when he finished only a neck behind the winner in the G2 Pan American Stakes.
Racing over 1 ½ miles on the turf for Paradise Farms and Mike Maker, Current tracked Spooky Channel around the track before taking the lead in the stretch. When faced with multiple challenges for the lead, Current refused to back down and in the end was in a three-horse photo for the win. His neck proved to be just a little too short and he had to settle for third, just a head behind second.
Gulfstream Park has been one of Current’s favorites with two stakes placings in two turf starts at the track. In all, the colt has four stakes placings in his career with a win in the G3 Bourbon Stakes.
Current proved to be a popular member of Hinkle’s 2017 Keeneland September draft, selling to Whitehorse Stables and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners for $725,000.
