Hinkle Farms-bred superstar Deterministic (5h o/o Giulio’s Jewel) doubled up on G1 Manhattan S. wins Saturday with a course record-breaking victory on the Belmont undercard.

Looking for his fifth consecutive victory overall in the race, Deterministic settled just behind the leading Rhetorical for much of the 1 3/16 miles to race in his customary stalking position. Regular jockey Kendrick Carmouche let Deterministic cruise down the backstretch, not asking him for anything until the quarter pole.

He was asked for full effort in the stretch and battled with Rhetorical until the final sixteenth. That one started to fade, but two others came running late with Deterministic winning by half a length over Test Score and One Stripe in a course record time of 1:50.50.

Bought from Hinkle for $625,000, the Liam’s Map runner is raced by St. Elias Stable, Ken Langone, C. Steven Duncker and Vicarage Stable. Trained by Miguel Clement, Deterministic has nine wins and four other top three finishes in 15 starts for $2,634,765. Among those are two G1 Manhattan wins and a G1 Fourstardave S. win with eight graded stakes victories coming on both dirt and turf.

Deterministic is one of three winners out of Giulio’s Jewel with the group including her final living foal, a 4-year-old by Frosted.

The winning Guilio’s Jewel is a half-sister to Grade 2 placed Duff One and a granddaughter of very successful broodmare Amelia.
