The Hinkle Farms-bred More Than Looks’ (3c out of Ladies’ Privilege) impressive resume got even stronger on Friday when he won his first stakes race in the G3 Manila Stakes.

It was another from-last-to-first run in the one-mile turf race for the colt, who has made that style his trademark. Asked to start moving up around the far turn, jockey John Velazquez asked him for his best in the stretch. He closed fast on a dueling pair and flew right by to win by 1 ½ lengths for his third victory in five career starts.

“We have a really nice one here. We felt going into this race that it was a tough group, but if we had fair fractions to run into, he could run them down. He did a really good job with that and when it [the half-mile] came up in 45 and change, I knew he was going to be coming. It was wonderful. Johnny [Velazquez, jockey] did a great job,” said Anthony Bartolo of Victory Racing Parnters.

Now the earner of $273,935, the colt was a $135,000 purchase at Keeneland September by Victory Racing Partners and is trained by Cherie DeVaux.

Next up is a run in the G2 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes on August 4 at Saratoga.

More Than Looks is the second foal out of the stakes winning Ladies’ Privilege. That mare is a full sister to multiple graded stakes winner and Grade 1 placed Takeover Target and is out of a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winning Critical Eye.

His dam has a juvenile Uncle Mo colt named Calhoun, who sold for $115,000 as a yearling, and an American Pharoah yearling filly.
