General’s Duty (3g o/o My Sweet Girl) became the newest winner for the Hinkle Farms breeding program on Saturday with a Laurel Park maiden victory.
The gelding sat near the back of the field in the 1 1/8 mile turf race early on with over 10 lengths between him and the leader. The Union Rags runner slowly made his way closer to the leader but was still behind much of the field going into the stretch. He was swung wide to have plenty of room to make his move in the stretch and he barreled down the center of the track.
The wire nearly came too early but General’s Duty had his head in front at the line to register his first career victory as the race favorite.
General’s Duty is out of the stakes winning My Sweet Girl, a half-sister to Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Caroline Thomas and out of the Grade 1 winning Bit of Whimsy.
General’s Duty was a $60,000 purchase by Goodwood Racing at the 2020 Keeneland September Sale from the Hinkle Farms consignment.
