A Hinkle Farms-bred joined the Road to the Kentucky Derby on Saturday when the undefeated Deterministic (3c out of Giulio’s Jewel) won the G3 Gotham Stakes.

Making his stakes debut in his return after breaking his maiden at Saratoga on debut, Deterministic stretched out an extra furlong in this race and easily conquered the added distance when asked to go a mile.

The tightly packed field saw Deterministic race just a little over a length off Maximus Meridius with jockey Joel Rosario waiting until the three-eighths pole to start coaxing him for more. There wasn’t anything to stop the colt from getting the lead as he swung into the stretch 10 wide and started a serious run.

By the sixteenth pole he had collared the leader, and it was all about expanding the margin from there with Deterministic winning by two lengths to earn 50 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.

Now two-for-two for the ownership group of St. Elias Stable, Ken Langone, Steven Duncker, and Vicarage Stable, he is trained by Christophe Clement. St. Elias purchased the Liam’s Map colt for $625,000 at the 2022 Keeneland September Sale, the fourth most expensive colt of the fourth session and the most expensive Liam’s Map yearling at the sale.

Deterministic’s dam Giulio’s Jewel is the dam of three winners from three to race with daughter Frills the winner of 10 races in her own career. Giulio’s Jewel has a Frosted juvenile filly to come.
