The Grade 1-placed Hinkle Farms-bred Deterministic (3c o/o Giulio’s Jewel) added a third career graded stakes victory to his record in the G3 Hill Prince Stakes.
Entered in the race by Christophe Clement after finishing in the top three in each of his last five races, Deterministic went off as the favorite in the 1 1/8-mile turf race with Joel Rosario aboard. Kept in hand around two lengths behind the leader, he was allowed to travel without much interference through the first seven furlongs of the race.
Rosario woke him up as they passed the quarter pole and Deterministic chased down the leader in the next furlong to take command just outside the quarter pole. Kicking clear of that runner, it was a late closer who was able to keep his winning margin to a length at the line.
The victory takes Deterministic to four wins and three other top three finishes in nine starts for $886,390 in earnings for St Elias Stable, Ken Langone, Steven Duncker, and Vicarage Stable.
The colt was a $625,000 Keeneland September purchase by his racing owners from his breeders in 2022.
He is out of three-time winner Giulio’s Jewel, who produced three winners from three to race with the group including 10-time winner Frills. Giulio’s Jewel is a half-sister to Grade 2-placed Duff One and out of a daughter of the successful broodmare Amelia.
