Thomas & Henry Hinkle-bred Mariachi Crush (2c out of Stockings) was a Maiden Special Weight winner in his second start on Sunday at Gulfstream Park with a 3 ¾ length victory.
Racing over 5 ½ furlongs on the All Weather, Mariachi Crush kept pressure on the leader throughout before that one wilted in the stretch. Once he had the lead, Mariachi Crush started to pull away with jockey Edgard Zayas confidently handling him to the line with only two horses within 11 ¼ lengths of him at the line.
Trained by Fausto Gutierrez Mariachi Crush races for St George Stable, who purchased him from Hinkle Farm’s consignment at last year’s Keeneland September Sale for $82,000. He is out of a winning Hennessy half-sister to stakes winner Princess Karen and is a half-brother to Hip 2456 – a filly by Catalina Cruiser – at the upcoming Keeneland September Sale. Their dam had another filly by Catalina Cruiser this year.
