One start after breaking his maiden in a Gulfstream Park Maiden Special Weight last month, Mariachi Crush (2c out of Stockings) earned blacktype when second in the Proud Man Stakes.

Racing over the same 5 ½ furlongs on the All Weather that saw him break his maiden, Mariachi Crush raced in near last throughout the early run. The colt had plenty of ground to make up coming into the stretch but showed a big turn of foot to pass all but the leader in the end, grabbing second near the line.

The Fausto Gutierrez-trained Mariachi Crush was purchased by racing owner St George Stable from Hinkle Farm’s consignment at last year’s Keeneland September Sale for $82,000. His dam is a winning Hennessy half-sister to stakes winner Princess Karen. His dam Stockings has a yearling Catalina Cruiser filly as Hip 2456 at the upcoming Keeneland September Sale.

She had another filly by Catalina Cruiser this year.
