Hinkle Farms bred, raised, and owned Monition (3g o/o Trevi Chic) stayed undefeated in his second start on Saturday with a Keeneland Allowance victory.
Monition broke strongly and controlled the pace in the 1 1/8-mile turf race from the start. He had to deal with pressure throughout from El Ahijado, who stuck to his side until half-way down the stretch. At that point, Monition put on another burst of speed to gain a length advantage by the final furlong and two lengths at the line.
Trained by Cherie DeVaux, Monition also won going a mile on the turf on debut last month.
After sustaining an eye injury as a foal, his breeders decided to keep him to race. He is the first foal out of the mare, Trevi Chic (Roman Ruler), who was claimed by Hinkle Farms in 2015. That mare is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Her Emmynency from the family of Turkish Horse of the Year Good Curry.
