Hinkle Farms-bred Tarabi (3f out of Indian Bay) got a well-deserved stakes victory on the opening day of the Saratoga meet when she won the Wilton Stakes for LBD Stable, Manganaro Bloodstock, and David Ingordo.

Trained by Cherie DeVaux and placed in two Grade 1 races last season, Tarabi let Angitude lead early in the one mile race as she followed along in second. By the time they hit the far turn, she was done having a horse in front of her and had the lead with a little over a furlong left.

Goddess Of Fire made a run at Tarabi late in the race but the First Samurai daughter proved to be too strong and won by three quarters of a length with all but the second and third place finishers well behind the leader.

“We were trying to figure out what works best for her and her running style,” DeVaux said. “She had been on the chase from a bad break or hitting the gate. It was nice to see that she settled, came with a run and she persevered through the wire.”

Purchased for $240,000 at the Keeneland September Sale from the Hinkle Farms consignment, Tarabi has never finished off the board in five starts for $370,250 in earnings. A Kantharos half-sister is part of Hinkle Farm’s Keeneland September consignment this year as Hip 1033 at Barn 48.
