Tarabi Kicks Off Season on High Note

The consistent Hinkle Farms-bred Tarabi (4f out of Indian Bay) started her season on a winning note at Keeneland with an Allowance Optional Claiming victory on April 15.

Making her first start since a second in the Dogwood Stakes (G3) last September, Tarabi was eager to run when she entered the gate and had her nose out first at the break. Luis Saez quickly took her back to a stalking position with the filly waiting until halfway through the 6 ½ furlong dirt race to challenge the leader.

Dueling down the stretch, Tarabi edged ahead before having to dig back in when a late runner came at her to take the margin to a neck at the end.

An earner of nearly $500,000, the three-time winning Tarabi has never finished off the board with her placings including a second in the Spinaway Stakes (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). She was purchased by Pilgrim Racing from Hinkle for $240,000 at the 2020 Keeneland September sale.

Her dam Indian Bay is also the dam of a 2-year-old Kantharos filly named Lady Chai sold to Tarabi’s trainer Cherie Devaux for $570,000 at least year’s Keeneland September Sale. She also has a yearling Authentic colt to come.
