WAR BEAST (c, 2, Declaration of War--Special One, by Point Given) was off the board in his first two outings before moving forward to be third over course and distance Aug. 10. Given an 87-10 chance while adding blinkers here, the bay broke smartly and led into the clubhouse turn before deferring to sit third past fractions of :23.42 and :47.35. Moving back to the front inside the three-furlong pole, he was tackled by Media Blitz (Medaglia d'Oro) entering the final eighth and stuck to his guns in deep stretch to prevail by a nose. Media Blitz settled for second after running a winning race, breaking slowly and racing wide on both turns. The winner is a half to Ageless (Successful Appeal), MGSW, $737,130, who set or equaled four course records in her turf-sprinting career. His dam has an American Pharoah yearling filly and a weanling colt by Animal Kingdom. She was bred to Twirling Candy this term. War Beast's victory capped a big weekend for his co-owner and breeder Hinkle Farms. The Hinkle family's operation also bred Sunday's GIII Red Bank S. winner Divisidero (Kitten's Joy) and its homebred juvenile Wexx (Declaration of War) won on debut at Kentucky Downs Saturday. The family will offer halfsiblings to all three winners at the upcoming Keeneland September sale. The Hinkle Farms-bred Ginobili (Munnings) goes postward in Monday's GI Runhappy Del Mar Futurity.
