Hinkle-bred Wexx added blacktype to her record on Saturday when second in the Allen Black Cat LaCombe Memorial Stakes one start after winning a Fair Grounds Allowance Optional Claimer.

Wexx was set at a disadvantage from the start of the one-mile turf race when she bumped with another runner at the start. Wexx was the back marker of the field for the first half before passing another filly. She was still second-to-last as they entered the final furlong but Wexx was flying late and just missed the win by 1 ½ lengths in the end.

Wexx is the fourth stakes performer out of Hinkle’s Grade 3-placed My Rachel. That mare is one of five stakes performers out of Preserver, whose two stakes winners are Grade 1 winner Jack Milton and Grade 3 winner Peace Preserver.
