It was a debut victory for Zeus’ War (3c o/o First Tomoe) at Golden Gate on Sunday when he won by three-quarters of a length going six furlongs on the all weather surface.

Bred by Henry and Thomas Hinkle, Zeus’ War spent the early part of the race shadowing the leader before making his move half way through the race. He had another horse keeping him honest through that move and it turned into a battle of wills between those two as they dueled nearly all the way to the line.

In the end, Zeus’ War prevailed by three quarters of a length with the rest of the field a distant 5 ½ lengths behind the second place runner.

Zeus’ War is the first runner out of First Tomoe, a half-sister to the Grade 2 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Hyper. Hailing from the family of Grade 1 winner Eskendereya, Zeus’ War was a $190,000 Keeneland September purchase from Hinkle by racing owner Jethorse and is trained by Tim McCanna.
